MYOFASCIAL / CONNECTIVE TISSUE RELEASE

Myofascial and Connective Tissue Release, used in Neuromuscular Therapy, helps to release tension and pain due to increasing movement within the tissue.

The Myofascia, otherwise known as connective tissue, is a fibrous web that permeates the entire body. This tissue provides support and protection for the body, infusing muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and our organic system.

Connective tissue is thick and fibrous, unlike muscle tissue which is soft and malleable. In neuromuscular therapy, treatment of connective tissue differs from that of muscular release e.g. trigger point therapy in that application is much slower and deeper.  This often induces profound states of relaxation.

Myofascial release works at a very deep level within the tissue that can unlock  “old trauma” and cellular memory. This may occur on a neuro-muscular level e.g. physically, mentally or emotionally and can be extremely liberating. Release occurs when the body is ready and treatment respects this readiness and invites but does not force release.

Techniques involved in Myofascial release may use:

      • Skin rolling-lifting the fascia away from the body and releasing stuck fibres.
      • Slowly sinking into tissue with the exhalation, otherwise known as “winding in” and moving only at the speed the tissue releases and no faster. Movement can be so slow it is imperceptible to the recipient.
      • Slow fascial stretching, often resulting in feeling release in areas other than the focal point being worked on due to the unbroken connectivity of fascia throughout the body e.g. stretching in through the lower back can often result in feeling release through the neck or base of skull.
      • Connective tissue can involve whole limb lifting and slow twisting and manipulation/mobilisation to release long standing habitual bodily patterns.
      • Releasing the tissue otherwise known as “winding out” is done slowly and gently to maintain deep relaxation.
      • Cranial Release Therapy also uses myofascial release of the cranial bones

Regular myofascial skin rolling has been shown to reduce cellulite.
