TRIGGER POINT THERAPY

Trigger Point Therapy, locates and releases painful “trigger points” within muscles. This allows you to regain pain-free muscle movement and therefore restore soft tissue function.

Trigger points are the tight bands or “knots” that form within the body’s soft tissue. These “knots” come from metabolic wastes that result in sore aching muscles. Trigger points may be active or passive. An active trigger point refers pain to other areas of the body while a passive trigger point lies dormant within the muscle until activated. Activation of trigger points may occur due to over or under-use of muscles; injury; hormonal changes; stress; temperature; atmospheric changes; and other types of pain syndromes. When a trigger point is activated, the nerve impulses to the muscle fibres do not switch off as they are meant to. This over-stimulation creates the nagging continuous pain which is relieved through trigger point therapy.

Holistic Alignment Trigger Point Therapy  involves direct and specific manual pressure which stimulates the receptors within the tissue fibres. These fibres activate the nervous system, allowing the body to switch off pain signals. Increased circulation to the area helps to release metabolic wastes from the trigger points and alleviate pain. Relaxation breathing techniques are included to assist in the release of trigger points. Other techniques used include specific stretching and application of ice.
