NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY

Neuromuscular therapy uses a variety of bodywork techniques to facilitate increased “communication” between the central nervous and muscular systems.

The central nervous system is the body’s way of communicating with all of its different parts, and as with any system if there is a breakdown of communication, dysfunction may occur. Dysfunction or imbalance within the nervous system can result from injury, physical and/or emotional trauma, high stress, nutritional deficiencies, poor hydration, medications/supplements and overuse of stimulants or depressants.

Neuromuscular therapy addresses the following:

    • Physiological (the entire living organism, muscles, joints, organs)
    • Biochemical (hormones, neurotransmitters, nutrition,  hydration, medication, supplements)
    • Biomechanical (postural, movement patterns, gait-style of walking)
  •
    • Psychosocial (mental/emotional, behavioral patterns)

Together these processes determine the healthy function of the nervous system.

Techniques involved in Neuromuscular therapy may include the following:

    • Soft tissue therapy, trigger point therapy, ice and heat therapy
    • Assessment of supplements, use of stimulants, medications, depressants, nutrition and hydration levels
    • Assessment of posture, movement patterns, muscle length and strength testing, facilitated stretching, prescribed muscle strengthening, applicable lifestyle changes e.g. postural correction
  •
    • Empathic listening
